In celebration of Black History Month, students across the lower, intermediate, and high school participated in a variety of creative and educational projects designed to highlight culture, history, and student voice. Students chose from four project options—presentations, teacher interviews, art, or music—allowing them to explore Black history in ways that matched their interests and strengths.

Presentation groups researched two historical figures and shared their background, achievements, and fun facts before engaging their audience with a review game; these presentations were delivered to two classes, one lower school and one intermediate school, and during the high school assembly. Other students conducted interviews with teachers, asking thoughtful questions about the meaning and impact of Black History Month. Our arts initiatives included a collaborative Freedom Quilt and student-designed visuals using Canva featuring quotes celebrating Black history, with participation from lower school students as well.

ASUA Celebrates Black History Month with a message from our students.

To ensure all students could participate, AAC users collaborated with the tech team to create a video wishing the school community a “Happy Black History Month,” which was showcased at the high school assembly. The month concluded with an International Day celebration where students and staff shared dishes from their cultures, highlighting the diversity and unity within our school community. Overall, the projects gave students the opportunity to celebrate culture, build public speaking and interviewing skills, and express themselves through multiple forms of art and storytelling.
